Comprehensive protection against the risks of electrical energy - the vision of our company founder Walther Hans Bender - is a great idea which has been inspiring since then. Today, Bender GmbH & Co. KG is the global market and technology leader when it comes to electrical safety.

With a wide range of innovative measurement, safety and monitoring systems, our devices and systems check electrical safety when using electrical energy by ensuring early notification of insulation faults in electrical and electronic devices and systems. They are primarily used where an absolutely safe power supply is a key requirement to avoid the risk of injury or expensive damage to property.

The ISOMETER® - a great idea which still inspires us today

It all began in 1937 with the invention of the ISOMETER®, an insulation monitoring device. This was a ground-breaking invention which revolutionised protection against the hazards of electricity and was patented in 1942. In 1946, Walther Bender set up an engineering company, thus laying the foundations for the expansion of the company in the decades to come. In 1972, Dietrich Christian Bender took over his father's business with 28 employees and introduced industrial production and international sale of the ISOMETER®.

The family company has been actively managed by its third generation since 2006.

Comprehensive protection against the hazards of electrical energy remains the core of Bender's business. We develop solutions for the electrical safety for a wide range of highly complex applications. With our future-oriented products, we protect people and machinery and prevent expensive downtime and repairs.

In the future, too, our innovation and our expert know-how gathered over decades will help us provide solutions to the challenges of tomorrow. These will primarily include issues relating to increased compression of electrification into smaller and smaller spaces, the growing number of micro-electronically controlled systems and the ever more complex production process which raise the bar in terms of electricity quality and operational safety.

Medium-sized German global player

The medium-sized family company with its headquarters and innovation centre in Grünberg, Hesse, employs 754 people around the world - of which around 15 percent work in research and development - and records an annual turnover of around 118 million euros (2017). Production is at two sites in Germany. Bender is represented in more than 70 countries around the world and outside of Germany with 12 own companies.

Milestones

1937    Engineering graduate Walther Hans Bender invents the ISOMETER®, which makes the use of electricity much safer by employing the principle              of insulation monitoring.

1942    The ISOMETER® is patented and Walther Bender starts an engineering company in Grünberg, Hesse.

1972    Dietrich Christian Bender takes over his father's company with 28 employees. He develops the company into a worldwide active business.

1983    Foundation of Bender Inc., Exton, Pennsylvania (USA). In the following years the net of worldwide activities expands to 13 subsidiaries and 70              representations.

1991    Building of a fully automated production facility in Siersleben, Saxony-Anhalt.

1993    Bender presents the EDS-series, the first insulation fault detection for unearthed systems.

2003    Bender develops fault current and residual current monitoring systems for earthed power supplies.

2006    The third generation takes over the active management of the family company. Sabine Bender-Suhr becomes Managing Director of the newly                founded Bender KG concentrating the business activities of all group companies.

2009    Bender presents the ISOMETER® product line for electric vehicles, followed by the iso-F1 developed for the Formula 1-KERS-systems.

2010    ATICS® - Bender presents the first worldwide safest and most compact all-in-one changeover and monitoring device.

2012    Construction of a new, future-oriented innovation and final assembly works at the Grünberg site.

2014    Bender presents the new revolutionary ISOMETER® generation iso685.

2015    Co-operation with eBee Smart Technologies GmbH to expand market capacities towards charging infrastructure technology.

2016    Bender presents POWERSCOUT® - the first web-based software solution to detect malfunctions at an early stage.

2017    „Ready. Go. We build Future“ - Bender celebrates the 80th anniversary of the ISOMETER®.

2018    Bender increased its interest in eBee Smart Technologies GmbH to 90 percent.
