Job Description

  • I worked on assigned tasks in each department, focusing on Histological Surgical and Cytological practices in sequence. However, due to the high volume of cases at the private hospital, certain procedures could not be performed as they would be in a pathology institute. In the histology lab, most of the work involved staining and embedding, along with various other tasks such as cutting QC slides, writing slide labels, packaging work for doctors, and organizing blocks. In the surgical department, most of the work was done at the computer, as the staff responsible for cutting tissue preferred to document the information themselves. My role involved organizing patient tissue samples by their source, distinguishing between large and small specimens, documenting images, and checking the results from the doctors. The cytology lab was the most intensive, as staff provided training from specimen receipt to microscope preparation, and all aspects of the internship required comprehensive understanding and execution.

  • Performed assigned tasks in each department, primarily focusing on Histological Surgical and Cytological practices. However, due to the nature of being a major public institution, the workload in each department is substantial, which limits our ability to engage in all tasks within the histology lab. If a patient specimen is compromised, the institution must assume responsibility. In the surgical department, I was tasked with documenting gross observations as per the instructions of the surgical staff to assess the normalcy of the specimens. The cytology lab provided the most realistic working experience, as any incorrect results during cell microscopy could be corrected by the staff, who would also provide guidance. Additionally, all activities conducted in the lab were under the supervision of laboratory personnel.
